If ordering with a custom coloured spring, this item is made to order only. Please allow a few days for shipping. Orders cannot be cancelled or refunded on this item.

⚠️WARNING – SPRING TUNING REQUIRED
This kit includes multiple spring lengths.
You must select and install the same length spring on both sides. Do not mix spring types.

Select the spring that:

  • Fully opens the boot
  • Does not cause excessive resistance when closing
  • Places no visible strain on ball studs or brackets

Do not force boot shut.
Incorrect spring selection or mixed installation may result in misalignment, structural damage, or premature failure.

Boot Alignment & Adjustment

In some cases, especially on older vehicles, installing upgraded struts may place additional force on the boot lid, which can cause slight misalignment. This is not usually a fault with the struts themselves and can often be resolved with a simple adjustment.

What to check:

  • Confirm your vehicle year, model, and number of doors to ensure compatibility.

  • The boot may need tightening and re-adjusting after installation.

  • There are two adjustment bolts on the inside headliner, as well as on the rear boot (visible from behind the vehicle).

  • With the standard struts removed, check the boot alignment and make adjustments as required.

If you are still experiencing issues after making these adjustments, please contact us with your vehicle details, and our technical team will be happy to assist further.

How To Install Our Automatic Boot Struts

Remove OEM Tailgate Struts

Remove OEM Tailgate Struts

Support your tailgate open or ask someone to hold it for you while you remove your OEM gas struts. Use a flat-bladed tool to remove the metal clips, then pull the strut ball sockets away from the car.

We recommend purchasing our strut tailgate clamp tool to assist with a safe installation, which can be found here

You can now close the tailgate. There will be added pressure, which is normal. Once closed, hold down or click the unlock button twice on your key fob, and the boot will open automatically.

FAQ

Installation

How do I install Emerald Struts?

Installation is straightforward and can be done with basic tools. Detailed instructions and all necessary hardware are included in the kit. You can also find installation videos on our website.

Do I need any special tools for installation?

No special tools are required. Our kit includes everything you need for installation, and basic household tools like a flat-bladed tool may be needed. However, we recommend purchasing our strut clamp tool, available in four colours, to assist with a safe and smooth installation.

Can I use my existing key fob?

Yes! Our struts do not require any wiring, therefore you can use your existing key fob.

How does it unlock my boot?

Our struts are spring loaded, once the tailgate is closed, the spring will be compressed. When you open your boot, the boot lock will release and open.

Will the boot be harder to close?

Our struts are designed to have more internal pressure, and our spring is spring-loaded. Therefore, you may expect increased stiffness when closing.

Maintenance and Care

How do I maintain my Emerald Struts?

Regularly check for any signs of wear and tear and clean the struts with a damp cloth. Apply lithium grease to the ball studs periodically to ensure smooth operation.

For optimal maintenance, we recommend purchasing our strut starter kit, which includes everything you need to keep your struts in top condition.

Are there specific cleaning instructions for Emerald Struts?

Yes, simply wipe the struts with a damp cloth to remove any dirt or debris. For best results and to maintain the struts' protective coating, we recommend using our strut cleaning kit.

Plus, enjoy a refreshing black ice fragrance as part of the cleaning experience, leaving your car smelling as good as it looks.

How often should I check my Emerald Struts for wear and tear?

We recommend checking your struts every six months for any signs of wear and tear to ensure they remain in optimal working condition.

What should I do if my struts start making noise?

If your struts start making noise, it could indicate the need for lubrication or that a part needs to be tightened or replaced. Please refer to our maintenance guide or contact customer support for help.

Why do my automatic boot struts feel weaker in cold weather?

Gas struts rely on high-pressure nitrogen, which naturally contracts in colder temperatures. This can cause a temporary reduction in opening force, but performance will return to normal as temperatures rise. This is not a product fault, but a standard characteristic of gas struts.

To improve cold-weather performance, ensure the boot seals are clean and use the struts regularly to help them adapt.

Want a temperature-proof solution? Consider our electric tailgate systems, which function consistently in all weather conditions.
